Before you fax
- The Tax Department prefers fax over mail. Send the form by fax or by mail, not both.
- Do not attach a paper Form POA-1 to an online submission: a paper form must be faxed or mailed.
- For estate tax matters use Form ET-14, which has its own fax number.
- For matters administered by the NYC Department of Finance, the form says to send it to the office where the matter is pending.
- File a power of attorney through NYS Online ServicesThe Tax Department calls online filing preferred: about one business day, against two to three business days by fax.
